Default MM2H car and GST (effective 1st April 2015)

There's an announcement on the government site saying that, unless MOF (Ministry of Finance) decides to exempt MM2H participants, from 1st April 2015 GST will be added to the cost of a "tax-free" MM2H car.

So the cars will be tax-free but not tax-free unless of course...they change their minds

You can read the official word here:

Oh shit. If this is true I may just cancel my MM2H tax-free car order. It's one thing having to wait 6 months for delivery and quite another to have 6% added on to the price! Anyone tried buying a 2nd hand car in Penang?

Just as a confirmation, on the gov website, Ministry of Finance have confirmed no exemption.

Finance Minister decides that there will be no exemption of GST for the purchase of vehicles by the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) participants effective 1 April 2015. However, application for duty / tax exemption submitted to MOF before 1 April 2015 will be considered for GST exemption for a period of three (3) months from the approval date. MOF will not entertain any request to extend the period of application or GST exemption to purchase vehicles under MM2H programme. Thank You. Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Centre MALAYSIA
