Letter of Good Conduct (LGC) from UK if you're not living there
Has anyone done this? Is it easy to do?
I am having to apply for a new MM2H visa once my bank accounts are unfrozen (sigh). I've not lived in the UK for over 10 years. The agent I will be using has suggested that I can apply for a LGC in Malaysia but, typically for Malaysia, it is complicated and I apparently have to get a one-year one first, then a year later get another one. Or something like that. I will have to rely on the agent for this.
I'm just wondering if I can get a UK one easily (or not). Anyone?

I think what you want is now called "Disclosure" and is available for a fee. The Police State charges for its services under Capitalism !

I would suspect you will need a ACRO Police Certificate which is for immigration purposes rather than a Disclosure certificate which is for employment purposes.

This thread suggests only a Subject Access Request is required which is cheaper at £10.

Thanks for the link, BritinParis.
So, has anyone done this, and not been living in UK, and had it accepted by MM2H ?

Maybe it's worth another chat with Alter Domus?

Disclosure Scotland are reluctant to do this if you are abroad. They refer you to ACRO. Expensive.

BB, you could try to get such a document from your local police? That might be easier (?) than trying to get a document from the UK, especially as you haven't lived there for a long time.
In my case (European living in Japan for many years) I had to get the document from the Japanese police for my MM2H application. I did not have to try to get a document from my home country.

Yes the agent has already suggested that, though I understand it is a two part thing due to it being so slow here. About a year ...so there is some temporary thing first. Sorry cannot be more specific as it's just what the agent said.
I was just thinking the UK might be an option. Just thinking out loud.

Myself and my wife have been in the Middle East for over 10 years when we successfully applied for our UK police certificate. I called the ACRO office first and explained our situation and was advised to explain on the application form. As I recall we had to list our last UK address, and the company I currently work for provided a letter confirming our Middle East address and the fact that we don't have any utility bills to otherwise prove our current address. I appreciate that not may help you in your situation, I would give them a ring, or email and see what they advise. Hope it goes well for you.

Bless you, that is exactly the answer I was looking for. Similar situation I guess. I shall write. Thanks very much.
I'm doing "advance planning" at the moment, since I don't yet have the funds in my name to prove. At least I only have in joint names and that is not good enough apparently

I see there's a pop-up now on the MM2H portal explaining how to change the principal in the event of death/divorce. It says explicitly that the LoGC must be from the country of origin.

The website should have information on that. You can pay extra for fast track, which is what we had to do. We were visiting UK when we posted the application and needed it back before we left. International courier is an option if I remember correctly, so it shouldn't take long to get the letter back to you, assuming everything is in order.
