Kazakhstan- ALMATY
I have applied for a job in Kazakhstan that involves quite a lot of in-country travelling. I would like to know how is the life in Kazakhstan and to hear from others who worked there. The base is Almaty.

I stayed in Almaty for 2 weeks, it's a nut house, frequent auto accidents, although if you can't find a cab, believe it or not, most people for a nominal fee , will play taxi....just hail like an ordinary cab, worked for us , when we needed transport from a friend's apartment to our hotel at 1am..
Sometimes , you have to be forceful to get yourself understood, kids always are trying to wash your car inside supermarket car parks.
Some of the supermarkets are ridiculously underpriced in terms of Uk prices
Make sure your apartment comes from a recommended source...

You should be ok in Almaty but travelling to other parts of the country just make sure you have a local person with you.

Be careful in Aktau, as it's the kidnap capital of Kaz.
Most companies there, provide a driver / bodyguard

It was the same in Aksai. Many expats have been attacked or murdered walking the streets at night. We always had safety in numbers. People were fairly unpredictable there.
