I would like to bring my UK registered car over with me for this period of time. I have had the car for more then 6 months, so there is no issue there, but it is on finance, so I wont be able to re-register the vehicle in Ireland. I would like to know whether it is going to be possible to drive the vehicle in Ireland with UK plates with the knowledge that the car will be returning to the UK.
Thank you in advance!

Re-Insurance, ask your current insurers first as UK insurance will be MUCH cheaper than Irish insurance. If not try the big guns over here i.e. Hibernian, Axa, General Accident, but be prepared for a shock at the quote. Lots of cars from parts of europe have tended to be brought here by workers especially in the contruction industry. A number have not been legally insured and have resulted in a number of high profile accidents leaving victims with problems as the driver was not insured. The Garda (police) have just got new powers to stop and confiscate cars not legally insured.

My understanding is that you can drive for up to a year absolute maximum on your english tax and MOT if you are temporarily working in Ireland. You problem may be with your insurance and i would advise checking out the conditions imposed on you by your insurer.

Re: UK Cars in Southern Ireland
couldn't I just get a friend to buy a car in the UK for say €5000, he sells it to me for €1 and then I bring it in? I don't mind paying 30c tax. I know it's a blatant ruse, but surely they must have some clever way to stop people from doing something like that.

Persoanlised plates not permitted:curse:
I'm sure they'll catch onto this revenue stream in due course.
Have Irish VRT on new cars, and Road Tax always been sky high?
