Your not English so wouldn't have a problem, there racism is against the English for things that happened hundreds of years ago and they can't let go of and very much exists.
The toilets are among the worst i've ever seen and i've travelled a huge amount often in the mens (told by my hubby) you could do with wellies.

Re: ooooooo Ireland's SO expensive...
Hi
I am Irish living about 20 miles outside Dublin. My neighbour who was orginally from Liverpool decided to move back after 18 years in Ireland. She bought a house a good area etc. Six months later she moved back to Ireland herself and her daughter hated it and could not settle. She found the UK to be so expensive Council Tax, water rates etc. We do not have these in Ireland. Another friend who relocated to the UK last year due to hubby's work also found the same thing. I think it is a case of things balancing out. I would suggest that this lady rents in her choosen area in Clare for 6 months or so to see does she like the area and lifestyle and then look at buying. Don't be like my former Liverpool area who bought and sold twice in one year and paid a lot of stamp duty for the privelege.
Best of luck whetherever your decision.

Re: ooooooo Ireland's SO expensive...
Hi there, There is one thing that is terrible in Ireland and that is dental treatment. I have been told I need a root canal and a crown @€1500 plus 3 fillings at €80 each!!
Everyone I ask says it is cheaper to go to the North of Ireland or to Europe to have it done and it works out cheaper even with the travelling expanses.
Any suggestions or recommendations please!!

I checked with a dentist in Spain on my return and ended up getting it done there, it cost me 700 euros for the impant plus 2 crowns... just outside Malaga. I got an advertising brochure put in my letterbox in Fuengirola from a dental clinic there advertising implants for 450 euros, yes implants not crowns which are generally cheaper.
There is variation in prices that dentists charge here in Spain so ask around people you know in the south, the dentist that did mime told me he has regular clients from the south of Ireland for implant treatment, because of what they save here.

Can you continue to pay your NI stamps while living over here and so get NHS dental treatment still?

Might be worth looking at this Hungarian Dentist.

Hi all,
Just come back from Rome and noticed that unleaded petrol is 137.45c a litre. I've decided not to complain about the price of petrol here in Ireland for a while.

Mallow is great only 20 mins from Cork city, 45 mins from Limerick city, and 2 1/2 from Dubin by train. We actually live about 12 miles from Mallow in the middle of nowhere- no street lights or bin collections. I like living here, but not as much as I did 3 years ago. It's such a small community round here that everyone knows everybody elses business. OK most of the time, but I'm getting a bit sick of it right now . Still, if OH agrees we'll hopefully be in Oz by end next year .
Rome was wonderful. Very hot- 41-42C the weekend before last. I have a lovely tan (and yes I wore factor 30 sun block) but came home to rain and freezing cold. We put lit the coal fire on sunday. This summer is costing me a bloody fortune in fuel. According to my google homepage, it's warmer in Adelaide and it's winter there:curse:LOL

The weather is a major worry for me over there. London had its first 30c of the summer on Saturday so summer's been crap right across the Isles.

Im actually in australia on a 3 month holiday. I know the weather in ireland can be really depressing but australia has the opposite problem, severe drought. It has actually broken in some parts the first rain in 5 years but it will take years to recover. You don't really notice it in the cities but the countryside is burnt up with river beds dried up.

Re: ooooooo Ireland's SO expensive...
You'll find some things more expensive - a pint, car tax, cars, etc
Some things cheaper: petrol, no council tax, etc
A lot of things roughly the same: eating out, clothes etc
All depends on your lifestyle.
What's for sure is that some of the finest people you'll ever meet are here.
But you'll maybe have to socialise to meet them - the Irish aren't automatically neighbourly - maybe because of the housing boom & people moving fairly frequently.
It's generally very safe. The weather isn't all that much different to Scotland.
If UK housing is still going up in price, I'd agree that you should rent here for a while to see if you like it - your house in UK will go up in value, buying you more here (where prices have stabilised, maybe even dipped a % or so)
And if you don't want to settle, you won't have the worry of what kind of house your money will buy back in the UK.
Good luck with it.
