Default EU1 Form - Wife non-EEA x Time for Residence Card

Hi,
As a British citizen, I am moving to Ireland in May after accepting a job offer in Galway.
I will bring my family (wife+2 kids, brazilians) in June. I know I must fill EU1 Form requesting the residence card for each of them.

1. What should I do when I reach the Airport in Ireland with them?

2. As Brazilians it is not required a VISA but there is a limit of 3 months to stay there as vistors but it seems that the Residence Card can take up to 6 months to be processed.
I am really concerned about this as I don't want them to become illegal in RoI while the Residence Card is being processed.

Any advice?

Thank you.
Daniel
