Dual Nationality - Irish Passport

Hi,

I am British passport holder and was born in UK. I recently learnt that I can get Irish passport because my father is Irish and I have relatives in Ireland. My mum is English.

Does that mean I can get Irish passport? Are there any benefit in having second passport?

Thanks kindly in advance

Yes you can get an Irish passport

No, there's no benefit to getting one. Apart from visiting New York or Boston. It will lead to free beer when you change a travellers cheque and use the passport as ID. :)

We're all basically European passport holders these days.

My personal favourite "You can have a second passport, convenient if you have to send the first one away to get a visa stamped".

You have one of those annoying tables in a cafe where one leg is shorter than the other three and it rocks spilling your cappuccino. Having two passports will be handy to stop that irritating rocking if one isnt enough.

:D

If you can prove you have an Irish parent then you can get a passport easily, they had a huge fire years ago at the record office and all the passport holders record were destroyed

No extra benefit with 2 passports for Ireland and one for GB
