Why Vancouver = YVR?
Do you guys know why YVR stands for Vancouver? Where does the Y come from? Thanks!

All Canadian airports start with Y as far as the 3-letter airport
(IATA?) code goes.
At least YVR is intuitive (VancouveR)
Try Victoria (YYJ), Toronto (YYZ), Calgary (YYC), Edmonton (YEG),
Halifax (YHZ), Montreal Dorval (YUL) and Montreal Mirabel (YMX).

have a common first letter for all Canadian airports, and Y wasn't in

Another Edmonton airport has YED. In Toronto, YTO is the city code
embracing all airports.
Canada has a fair number of minor airports whose codes start with X or Z
rather than Y, and a few -- presumably newer ones -- with other initial
letters.

Apparently the Y stands for "Canada." The codes for all Canadian airports
start with Y, but I don't know why (no pun intended).

with Y.
In filing flight plans, pilots show the nav stations to be used during

Are you sure you aren't mixing up the IATA (3 letter) and ICAO (4 letter)
codes? Navigation is based on ICAO codes and I can believe they
incorporate VOR codes (e.g. EGLL for Heathrow I believe). IATA codes seem
to try and relate themselves to the airport name (despite Canada!).
