Copenhagen...Which hotel to stay at?
Right now, I am considering the following hotels--has anyone had
experiences with them?
Hotel Alexandra
H.C.Andersens Boulevard 8
Copenhagen Dk 1553 V
Savoy Hotel
Vesterbrogade 34
Copenhagen Dk 1620
Savoy is cheaper, but I've heard it's not ideally located. Any other
recommendations? I want to be close to Tivoli and nightlife/shopping.
thanks

I've stayed at the Alexandra , its a nice hotel in a perfect location
for your requirements being only 200 m from town hall
square and an easy stroll from Tivoli

Re: Copenhagen...Which hotel to stay at?
I've recently stayed at IBIS Star ([email protected]). Very close to
station (hence to Tivoli), reasonably cheap, recently refurbished, maybe
the breakfast area is a bit tight, but it's OK. I originally booked
using the italian ACCOR chain phone, but since they did not manage to
find a twin bed room for me, I used the above e-mail and got the
reservation changed (got even a cheaper price).
I could also advise Astoria. That's even closer to the station (just in
the station square). I staid there 20 years ago and I remember a
wonderful breakfast buffet with freshly baked sweets. Class comparable
or superior to the IBIS. I actually wanted to stay there, I had a
brochure from the Danish Tourist Office which mentions a very convenient
weekend offer (including meals). I tried to phone an italian chain phone
(the hotel is part of a danish chain affiliated to an international
chain) but there was no availability with such offer. But August was
high season.
You could trace it on the quoted danish hotel web site, or get the
brochure with all danish hotels from the nearest Danish Tourist Office.

Remember the Astoria is on top of the railway lines.. Freight trains
bass by
or rather under the hotel @night.
I stayed there a week (job..) 10 years ago and was woken up quite a few
times
during the night.
Breakfast ? Can't remember it being something special compared to other
danish hotels.

Re: Copenhagen...Which hotel to stay at?
Did you actually get a twin room? We stayed in a UK Ibis (Cardiff Central)
which they said when I phoned was a twin but it had a double bed and a desk
that folded down into a tiny short bed! I asked by E-mail if the Zurich Ibis
had twin rooms and they said yes but a further queastion by E-mail led to
the conclusion that to them 'twin' meant two people. They then said that
their was a second bed similar to the Cardiff one.
