Default American murdered in London

Stab victim was top artist

By Justin Davenport and Danielle Gusmaroli, Evening Standard
4 February 2003

The jogger victim of the brutal murder in the park was revealed today
as a highly talented and prize-winning artist.

Margaret Muller, a 28-year-old American, had recently completed a
postgraduate degree at the respected Slade School of Fine Art. She had
held a number of solo exhibitions of her paintings and had lived in
London for at least three years.

Detectives were today contacting her relatives in the United States to
break the news of her murder after tracing friends and relatives in
London through a mobile phone found on her body.

Friends and colleagues at the Slade School today paid tribute to a
woman they described as a "highly talented" painter. The identity of
the murder victim emerged as police increasingly feared they were
hunting a crazed killer after a knife attack a week ago in London
Fields, a park less than a mile away, last Thursday. A woman in her
thirties was sexually assaulted and stabbed around 5pm.

Police revealed that Miss Muller had suffered multiple stab wounds in
a frenzied attack and Scotland Yard issued a warning to women jogging
or walking alone to be alert.

Miss Muller's body was found on a busy path in Victoria Park, East
London at 8.30am yesterday after several people heard shouts and
screams. Joggers and walkers rushed to the scene and found her
blood-stained body

She had no identification or belongings except for a bunch of house
keys and a phone.

Det Chief Inspector Ron Scott, who is leading the investigation, today
appealed for witnesses to come forward "as a matter of urgency". He
said: "This was a frenzied and callous attack. cannot believe that
nobody saw the attacker leaving the park as it would have been busy"

Miss Muller arrived in the UK from America at around 2000 and attended
the Slade School which is part of the University College London.

A curriculum vitae on her website shows she attended high school in
Virginia and went on to a local state university where she won an arts
scholarship.

She appears to have moved to London in 2000 when her CV says she
exhibited at a post graduate interim show at the Slade.

Miss Muller, who was single, lived alone in at a flat in Wallis Road,
Hackney. She was recently interviewed for an Evening Standard article
entitled 'The art of painting: Whatever happened to artists who draw
and paint?'

She told how she wanted to follow the most old-fashioned of artistic
disciplines: modelling from life. "All my work is now strictly
observed," she said.

"Students who wanted to go into the life room were told it was going
to close down their creative instinct. I think it is the opposite. You
need something to respond to, to grow with."

Her website features numerous exhibits of her paintings and describes
how she specialised in life painting and drawing.

Detectives were today examining the website in case it gave any clues
to her murder.

They issued a particular appeal to a youth on a bicycle who was at the
scene of the murder and was asked to go for help, but apparently left
the scene without trying to contact anyone.

It is certainly unfortunate.

. . But what is the point of this lengthy post, and then threaten us
with more?

We also read the newspapers.

1. The one killed in her hotel room?

2. The one killed in Hackney - the latter one is hardly unexpected, no
disresect to the lady who lost her life, but Hackney is a dodgy hole
and she knew that, her parents knew that, most sensible Londoners know
that.....its full of the scum of the earth, illegal immigrants,
muggers, druggies and now murders.....

Note to tourists do not venture to any postal district with an E at
the front eg. E9...EC's are OK.

Actually, Hackney is often the scene of murders and shootings, but as
they victims are usually black men, it doesn't make the news very often.

So why is an American being killed in London even an item worthy of
mention in the news? Folks are murdered and otherwise killed every day
(our US government and its proxy governments is a major committer of
these murders) in every corner of the world. Yet a single white
American is killed (the key words being "white" and "American"), and
you'd think the World Trade Center had been blown up by terrorists or
something.

well duh -- when a German tourist was shot in Florida that made big news
too -- things out of the ordinary attract attention -- drug dealers
shooting each other get mentioned but barely

This does in fact show a great disrespect to the lady who died, not to
mention being offensive to those live in Hackney (or extended to the
whole of East-London in your post).

Come on....Hackney is a crap hole with lots of crap living
there.....witness the crime levels and personal safety fears of the
majority of residents. Forgive me wasn't Britain's longest siege ended
a few weeks ago - in guess where - HACKNEY
