Boycotting French And German Products......
Hmmm...this is pretty interesting.....
In the last several days I've dropped by my local fave Chicago wine and food purveyors (Sam's, Binny's, Treasure Island Supermarkets...). These are high - end retailers who sell wine, cheese, food, etc. to a sophisticated urban clientele...a typically "liberal" urban demographic that is comprised of highly educated folks (many of whom are Jewish...).... I talked to the gals and guys who do the buying for these US stores....without skipping a BEAT they all said that sales of French and German products are down DRASTICALLY...not because of the "bad economy", but because many Americans are fed up with the anti - US shenanigans that some in the EU are promulgating...so people are putting the kibbosh on French and German and Belgian wines, beers, cheeses, and the like........ The demographic that buys these products is highly educated, *not* a bunch of Texas rednecks..... The guy I talked to at one of the big liquor stores said that sales of Czech and Russian and English and Polish and Japanese, etc. beers were UP...likewise sales of Australian and New Zealand wines were UP by a factor of two - three...wholesalers are *cancelling* any orders for French and German stuff...in fact one guy told me "NO one is ordering French wine or cheese anymore...I've had many of my accounts tell me 'Screw French or German, etc. products'...if I depended on peddling French or German products at this time, I would be BROKE......" One caterer friend who does lots of high end events told me: "We now have a standing order: NO French or German wines, cheeses, etc.for any of our clients..NO EXCEPTIONS...people are fed up...such products are not even to be OFFERED." Just thought I would share something here that until now has not been reported in the "liberal" US media..... -- Best Greg |

[snip] I hereby vow to increase purchases of products from those countries (which in practice is likely to mainly mean France). I am always impressed by the elegant way in which you express yourself, and your open-mindedness. N.B. This is "irony." Look that up in a dictionary. A dictionary is a book which explains the meaning of words. You may find one in one of your US large cities. -- Marie Lewis |

But except for USA, UK and Australia, the rest of the world wants a fair process for Iraq which does not penalise the country and its citizens unnecessarily. Just because you are opposed to the Bush Jr plans does not mean you are pro-Iraq. This is a mistake made by americans who don't see why it is wrong for the USA to want so desperatly to attack. I find it ironic that americans are so quick to discredit France, China, Russia, Germany and others instead of demanding real explanatiosn from their government. Generally, citizens of a country do not truist their own government and this is why there is an opposition and media to keep an eye on the government. But since 9-11, there has been no official opposition, neither political or media to whatever Bush Jr says and this has resulted in the american public being brainwashed. For those who have not heard it, Nelson Mandela had publicly called for Bush Jr to be tried for GENOCIDE should he attempt to invade Iraq without UN approval. Whether you agree with this or not, the USA has a serious image problem outside of its borders and it MUST deal with that image problem before it deals with Iraq. The security council was formed with the idea of preventing a single rogue country from taking actions against world peace. This is why there are veto powers given to strategic members. The security council has often been stopped by a single veto from the USA (notably for Israel issues where the USA protects Isreal from UN sanctions). Now, there are possibly 4 countries willing to use VETO to prevent the USA from waging war. The USA citizens should really demand explanations from their president on why the USA would be willing to overrule the veto or 4 large nations and still go ahead with unilateral war against Iraq. Doing so would undoubtedly result in the rest of the world disregarding a USA veto the next time a resolution in blocked by the USA only. |

Can't be that "highly educated" if they don't know Russia is pretty much siding with France and Germany. |
