Twin Cities (St.Paul/Minneapolis) Brits??

Any Brits in the Twin Cities area? I've just recently moved to Eagan (yesterday) so between job hunting and watching bad day-time TV (seriously, what's with all the courtroom programs??!) my calendar is pretty empty! If anyone is in the area and would like to meet-up give me a shout!!

Wife and I are mid to late 20s (if that makes any difference?!)

Hi Anstar - I wonder if you came over on the same flight as us? We moved here on the 8th too :D My husband had a job transfer, so while he is hard at work, I am busy filling out my EAD and watching re-runs of CSI
We're in the Downtown area at the moment.

There's a Mplsbrits group on yahoo - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mplsbrits/
It's pretty quiet, with an occasional flurry of activity, but they have a monthly meet-up which I'm sure we'll try to get too next month.

As you mentioned job-hunting, I thought I'd post this as it was on the front page of Yahoo this morning!

Hey Taffie! Thanks for the reply, I was starting to think I was the only Brit in the Twin Cities! Sorry for the late response but I've been busy writing, re-writing and then re-writing again my resume.....Well, apart from the five minutes it took me to proudly hang my Union Jack to the flagpole on our house.....fun times!!

I missed the Yahoo group meet-up this month but I will definitely make the effort to attend in June, did you make it or couldn't you drag yourself away from CSI?

Hello again! Yes, we went along on Sunday. CSI is only on weekdays, so it was fine ;) There was quite a big group, and it was nice to socialise a bit. If you have any question I do recommend you post to the Yahoo group, they can be helpful.

Just stumbled on this with a semi-related google search. Had no idea that the forum existed before today...

Turns out Woodbury is something of a mini-hub for Brits!

We have a group of 6-7 couples that just met up for the first time in August.

Most of us have been around for a while. Range in age from 20s to *cough* older than 20s.

Didn't find one another via the internet though -- simply word of mouth or business contacts instead.

If you want adding to the invite list for when we do something next, send me a message:

Cheers,

--Matt

Hi there Matt - the Twin Cities area in general seems to be popular with the Brits for some reason, they pop up everywhere! There's a group on meetup.com too that I signed up too, but haven't got around to going to any of the meets. We've only actually been to the one brunch with the Yahoo group (back in May) and to the annual BritNic in June, which was lots of fun. I have made friends with one girl from the group though, who I do see regularly.
We recently discovered the British Food Section as Byerly's, so are well stocked up HP sauce and the like

Possible curry night @ India Palace, Woodbury tomorrow.

If you'd be free, let me know.

Cheers,

On meetup.com now too.

There's something going on at least monthly.

Look for the Twin Cities British Expats group, if you're not already a part of it.

I'm not British but I'm looking for expats in Minneapolis as well. Would it be crass of me to show up at a British meetup?

I don't know. Do you know the secret British handshake ;)

This group has appeared on Meetup.com today - I'm contemplating joining, and you may be interested too :)

Hey everyone, I did a little stalking and I am SO happy to find this! I should be moving to Lakeville, just outside the cities next April/May!
How is everyone enjoying the cities? I know how brutal a Minnesota winter can be! :)

Re: Twin Cities (St.Paul/Minneapolis) Brits??

Hi, I am seriously considering moving my family to the Twin Cities. My main office is in St Paul, but I currently work out of the Seattle office.
I chose Seattle over St Paul as the weather in MN terrified me. Not the winters, but the stories of hot, humid summers and mosquitoes!

Is it really that bad out here over summer ?

I've been out here in Feb and I've been over here this week too. It looks like a nice place to live. I'm currently staying with friends in Waconia and we've had fun with both ATVs and boats on the lake (not in the same season!).
What is really attractive though is the Real Estate prices. I could possibly buy a huge house here on acres of land for cash! Back in Seattle, we live 20m out on the Eastside and I can only afford a cardboard box on a postage stamp of land.

We like small town America and would love to live in a friendly community with good schools and facilities. Is Woodbury or somewhere else near St Paul going to give us that ?
