There are 6 WW II shipwrecks at divable depths there, a nice village with good accomodations, and friendly people. See http://seatraveler.com/coron.htm for some photos. A nice place for a week's vacation. You have the choice of a couple of medium-length walks in, or a pump boat trip to the cave entrance. You can also do a boat trip into the cave and see the swiftlets. South of Puerto Princesa, Mount Mantaligahan has excellent cloud forest even now, and is good for birds. You probably get a guide from Brookes Point. Further south, past Bataraza, Pagoda Cliffs is a spectacular jungle trek taking a couple of days. The Rio Tuba nickel mine must also be huge by now, since it's 25 years since I was there. |
