Cost of flying cat from UK to USA
Hi,
I've got a cat and planning on moving from UK back to Connecticut in the next couple of years. Anyone have any experience of flying a pet over and how much did it cost? I've heard from other people it cost them $2k to fly over their dogs from USA to UK but then they were large dogs. I believe it goes by crate size so hope would be alot less than this! Also cost in £ if anyone has as that's what currency we will be using. Thanks, Originalgoonie |
Re: Cost of flying cat from UK to USA
There are a couple of recent threads on this with a lot of detail. Worth searching for.
When reading one a while back, I bookmarked the site: http://www.petexports.co.uk/ So I suspect that was recommended. |

Re: Cost of flying cat from UK to USA
We shipped our cat from Heathrow to Denver earlier this year. The cost was a little over £500 and we used Airsupply (shipping agents, not the band). We had no problems and I would recommend. I can't really comment on taking a cat in the cabin, but this is something I would personally never want to do (maybe depends on the personality of your cat!)
The main bulk of the cost is the freight charge so this is going to vary depending on time of year, carrier, route, etc... we flew BA. Also, there was a restriction during the summer months (heat related) but this may be because we were going to Denver. |

Ian FWIW, for those thinking of transporting a cat - although she didn't pee (apparently cats can hold it in for ages) we used 'dryfur' absorbing crate liners. We had to buy them in the US as for some reason they don't seem to be sold in the UK. |
Re: Cost of flying cat from UK to USA
We brought our cats over with us last year from the UK to the US - it cost us roughly 422 pounds per cat, and that included the airline compliant cat carrier. We used a pet shipping specialist. I agree with others who've said it's fairer to the cat and to other passengers to have the cat in the hold. Our cats were fine and had no problems (thankfully!).

Some people we know have a large dog, they had a pretty horrendous service from BA with how the dog was kept. The dog was really upset after the flight, I think the size of him was the issue as the carrier he was in was just not large enough.

Every time I see this thread title, I imagine a giant cat with people riding it as it flies over the Atlantic.

Make sure you never take a Snickers bar on a flight mate, just in case one of your fellow passengers has a peanut allergy
