Packing Smoked Salmon for Travel to UK..?

Hello All!!!

I am heading to the UK this week, and I'm taking some frozen smoked salmon for family as gifts....

Can anyone tell me the best way to pack it so it will survive the trip?

Do I carry it on, or can I put it in my checked luggage?

It's only about 500 grams in total, so not bulky.

Thanks guys!!!

In an insulated bag with one of those frozen gel packs? Mine used to work a treat when I defrosted my old freezer. It kept everything frozen until defrosting was completed several hours later.

In the suitcase. You might get away with that.

How come you're bringing frozen smoked salmon to the UK? They've got lots of it there. Is it a local brand or variety not sold in the UK? I'd like to know the species and brand. Thanks.

You might want to check the regulations on importing seafood as well, even in small amounts for personal use. Most countries restrict the importation of meat, seafood, produce etc.

Agreed, however it's a Canadian export, and something I know my family don't usually purchase.

It's sokeye, line caught.

Would also suggest wrapping it up in a couple of layers of newspaper - then the gel packs etc...Works a treat
Have a good trip

You could always buy the self stable variety, comes in a foil pack abd typically in a wooden box or some other decorative box, found in touristy areas as well as some grocery stores.

No clue what it tastes like as I dont eat fish, but it requires no cooling until opened.
