I hope it's not 8 weeks! We've been told so many different things. We have a 20 foot container being packed Monday and Tuesday next week and we are hoping for 6 weeks door to door otherwise we will be in an empty house with 2 kids. Can anyone else share their experiences please? :)

I think perhaps because we arnt sending too much and are sharing a container, then we have to wait longer till the containers full. I'm hoping no more than 10 week myself as that's when we will get there but my poor hubbie will be living in a furniture less house in calgary until then lol, fingers crossed its quick for us both!!

We're having a sole use container going from Grangemouth to Montreal (once a week sailing) then onto Vancouver. We've been told could be as quick as 4 wks but to assume 6wks in case any hold ups with customs etc.

Re: Shipping times

We moved from southern UK to Calgary in May 2012 with a (sortt of) sole use 40 ft container (we sold a bit of the space to someone else). From door to door took 4 1/2 weeks, and that was with a possible hold up because CP rail went on strike while our container was still at sea. We were told it would be between 4 & 6 weeks depending on how quickly it got through the docks and onto a train.

I know our container came vai the east cost and was shipped west from there by railroad, but one company we talked to was planning to go via Vancouver and get the railroad east which would have added a week or 10 days.

Calgary at the moment is around 14 days on the water, we normally suggest to add on 2 weeks for collection, transport to port, customs clearance and arranging delivery the other end so 4 weeks would be the absolute minimum we'd expect for an exclusive load.

If it's a shared load then this will depend on how popular Move Corp's groupage services are and how frequently they load and said for Canada. 8-12 weeks sounds like a shared load to me and would be about realistic for a company with fairly frequent service.

Hi Kirsty, what would you estimate the time to be for a sole use of a 20 foot container going from London Uk to Toronto? They are collecting next Monday and Tuesday :)

Hi, current sailing time from London ports to Toronto is between 15 and 25 days depending on which shipping line your mover selected, so add 2 weeks to that for minimum door to door. Hope that helps!

Re: Shipping times

We had part shipping and it took 8 weeks but we also had the fortune of a strike and our stuff had to be diverted and the container x-rayed at our cost!!

Just bad luck!! :)

Re: Shipping times

When we had our stuff shipped four years ago, from leaving the UK to arriving in Calgary was just 11 days!! However, we did have it held in storage either end for a few weeks so I'm not exactly how long it would have been if we had't needed the storage but I'm guessing it would have been around the 3-4 week mark.

Which POE are you basing that statement on? UK to Montreal is 9 days on the water at the moment, if fact it always 9 days, in 4 years I havent know it take any longer, as long as they are coming straight over, no stops at Antwerp.

9 days on the water from UK to Montreal, 2-3 days on a rail car from Montreal to Toronto, as long as it doesnt get held up for customs inspection. If you are available to clear your shipment at short notice, then you could have your shipment with 2 days of your Canada agent collecting it from the rail head. Things are moving very fast at the moment, there is no reason for any delays.

sorry, wrong choice of words - by on the water i meant total transit time to Inland POE Calgary, which includes rail, via Montreal.
