Monteiro knew this was coming & when interviewed after it had been announced laid the blame for this squarely on the shoulders off Sra Candida Almeid who basically refused to investigate any further as to quote

She obviously forgot that at least 3 credible witnesses during the fiasco called The Smith & Pedro Trial stated under oath that they knew the required payoffs would end up with Socrates.

Oh well she did state "Our Politicians are not Corrupt"

If so, then take Socrates to to court & have him prove it , but no can't do that we will take the easy way out & chuck the case in a draw & save any embarrassment
complete & utter BS

This is slightly off "thread" but sums up why Portugal is loosing ground.

Several months back there was a big splash on PT TV News over the fact that a PT Designed & Built New Wave Energy Generating system was being put in place in the sea for testing off of the fishing port at Peniche.

They stated that this trial was being closely watched by several other International Energy supply companies.

On last Thursday nights TV News this was again featured, but for all the wrong reasons !!

The system has been in place in the sea for some time ,the data collecting station has been built onshore with all the relevant Computers & such up & ready to go but nothing has been achieved

Why :- They are still waiting for the Licence to be signed off by some #*^t in the Portuguese bureaucratic system so they can CONNECT to cable from the Sea system to the onshore Data point so the Testing can start

Needless to say the other interested companies are NO longer interested

See no reason to disbelieve the leaders in Tuesdays C da M.

Portugal recently lost €1.4B in their state pension pot with bad investment in the Bolsa.

2. The Social Security fund will be bankrupt by 2020.

As we all know the Financas are really pushing to get in every "cent" but!

Last week when the rush was on as if you did not pay certain Tax's by the 01.11.2012 a penalty charge was added on, the complete computer system of Autoridade Tributária "crashed"
So the Gov extended the deadline until 02.11.2012.

And again but :- 01.11.2012 was a Public Holiday ?

On a lighter note:- Sr Ângelo Alfonso of Cascais received in his post box an aviso that there was a Registered Letter for himself to be collected from his local PO,he had a vg idea it was from the Finanças & to do with a Tax he had failed to pay on some land he owned.

You can imagine his surprise when he went to collect it,that there was not 1 but 115.
All from the Finanças & all exactly the same, it took the PO clerk & himself one & a half hours to sign all the relevant receipts.
He asked for a explanation but none was given

Don't worry about it - its only public money.
Now if it had been their own would they have taken such risks ?

And it is highly unlikely they will be prosecuted for misuse of Public Funds, letalone be askd to pay some sort of fine.

when are stoopid Brits going to understand that Portugal, like Spain, is predominately an agri-marine economy who grow the food to allow the workers in the industrial heartland of countries like Germany.

That is the problem with the EU, it is a mix of agricultural, marine, industrial countries, each biased in different directions. It should be a symbiotic relationship, a mixture of positives and negatives. Germany can't live without the food, Portugal and Spain can't live without the German technology and industry to cultivate that food as they have far smaller support industry.

Quite correct as most off them have "Off Shore" accounts & even though the Finanças stated early this year that they intend to track down all off the undeclared Off Shores they seem to have a stone in there shoe as very little has been done
Personally I don't they would dare to open a full investigation as if they did & published the result the riot that took place in Lisboa last night would look like a kids tea party compared the reaction off joe public here if the knew the real facts !

It is a documented fact that over 3.5 Million €'s leaves Portugal every day for Off Shore Accounts

The Boy's look after the Boy's

The PSD & CDS-PP Goverment stated last year that every body would loose 50% of there Holiday & Xmas Pay NO EXCEPTIONS OK

Then they managed somehow in Sept 2011 to exempt 131 persons who work in house for Cabinet Minister from this rule!

A few weeks back the PS requested info in Parliament as too the real figure off Public Employees being exempt as there has been a substantial amount off "gossip" in the PT Press that the above figure was incorrect.

The PS received a written reply early this week & the figure now stands = 1454

Pensions Cut - Unemployment Benefit Cut - Student Grants Cut - In fact the working population is getting a hair cut & The Boys are growing Pony Tails

UK is not that different , despite all the talk of cuts some parts of the public sector have actually seen an increase in the numbers employed.
