Default Women's health issues

Hiya
Probably aimed more at the female population in Portugal

What do you do/how do you go about getting regular cervical pap smears and breast screening?

Thanks

Local Health Centre. (Centro da Saude!

In teh Centro da Saude in Lagos,I think I have seen a unit dealing with this. I's also sura that I have seen mobile units that go out to towns & villages without medical facilities.

If I may jump in here ... are there, in general, English speaking doctors around Lagos ? Especially specialists ?

There are specialist in the Algarve, but not necessary in Lagos.

For example, the state health service Cardiology unit for the Algarve is in Faro. The population of the Algarve cannot support specialists in every town.

Even in the Private Hospitals specialists tend to hold consultations one day in one centre then another day in another centre.

Unlike many Anglo Doctors, most Portuguese medicos that I have known speak, at least one other language, if not two.

A friend of mine had her tests done at the private hospital in VRSA. She mentioned that it also included an ultrasound scan which, apparently, it not always common practice in the UK. Total cost less than €30.

If you are registered at your local Centro de Saude you should receive a letter every 2 years for the mammogram and every 3 years for the cervical test.
