Re: What do you love about where you live?
When my wife and I decided to buy in the Algarve we stayed in a hotel, and drove along its entire length. There are some people who will not consider the region at all because it's so commercialised. However, from our point of view we wanted somewhere that was popular, but didn't compete with the Spanish "costas". The Algarve offers both of the extremes when it comes to commercialism and traditionalism, and nobody can fairly claim otherwise!
My personal preference was the East Algarve, but my wife and I based ourselves in Carvoeiro for our search. I am not going to give any opinions on any of the places we visited, because they were all delightful, but we created a "tick" list, and the place with the most ticks was where we purchased. I will not disclose where, because I have done that previously on this forum, and I wouldn't want to influence anybody's decision when it comes to choose.
The bottom line is that the place we chose ticked most of our boxes, and 7 years on we are still happy with the location we chose!

I made a short-list of 4 places here that looked tempting to me and I know that I will get flak but here goes.
Peter is happy in some "town" with a population of 3. So it is him and a horse and a pig? No idea of where it is but I know that he built the town himself.
Lagos has a big sea but one has to swim over lagoons to actually get to the beach. Very arid much like Dubai.
Carvoeiro is small but to get to the beach, one has to repel down cliffs to get to it. Also flat and arid.
Figueiro Dos Vinhos looks the best with the greenery and mountains. I also love the Vinhos part but the lakes are just too far to walk to.
So I will stay here in lovely Viana. We have it all here.

The reason you don't know where I live is maybe because we don't want the likes of you coming along and spoiling things.
As I mentioned in my reply what I said was in JEST.
But while you have a pop at me you are leaving someone else alone or was it the drink talking?

I did not mean to offend you Peter. It was all in JEST. I would love to have a beer with you but we are miles apart.

You obviously have not seen much of Portugal , the combination of cliffs, flat and arid is one I would like to see.
At my advance anything more than a gentle slope is a big challenge so the idea of rapelling down the three steps to our local beaches concerns me everytime I return to Carvoeiro.
You suggest that Peter may live in a village a horse and a pig but I am assured that the horse is a pedigree lusitanio and the pig the best of black pork. ,two of the finest things in Portugal.
They also speak fluent English so unlike some he is not trapped in 4 walls addicted to internet tv desperate for conversation and shops that stock familiar foodstuffs.
Living on pot noodles must get pretty boring .

Good move Ukkram. I travelled the length and some of the breadth of the country for many years on holidays and I can't think of a nicer place to settle, though it's such a lovely country I'd probably have been happy anywhere (as long as it was no more than an hour's drive to the coast).

So it seems like Viana wins this competition.

What competition, each to their own.

I just love your ideas of the various areas in the Algarve Ukkram..Don't recognise a single one! but your imaginative descriptions are priceless. 'The lagoons of Lagos'? 'The Arid landscape of Carvoeiro..? As long as you don't get to write a travel brochure...all harmless fun
