I'm a pussycat. I haven't even opened the pre-course material for Induction to Personal Insults.
The real pros are on the international circuit, popping in and out of the Plaza de Toros chancing it with the bulls, jetting down under to hang out with the flying whine-makers in The Barbie - they're the real heroes of this forum. I'm barely able to keep my head above water at club level. Technique can make up for a lot, though.

Oooh you could teach US a thing or two then Dicky Nothing like getting the inside track to a countries vibes and protocols. Not to mention, quirks! like the aforementioned long line of owners. We are now assured that no 26 has signed. YD, being in the trade so to speak, is still not holding her breath however. Good luck with your eventual purchase

Re: Very close to buying now
Would agree on visiting the place at night.
Seems to me the housing market is moving too now in Portugal. We bought just over a year ago, about 30 mins south of Lisbon in condo of detached houses. Our house had been empty for couple of years, same with one next door. There was another couple of empty houses near to us, that were falling into poor state.
The month after we moved in, the house next door sold (nice guys, kid similar age to ours). The other houses sold. There is one left that was a half built place with no windows that stopped during construction, but couple of days ago we saw estate agent outside putting up a for sale sign. Went over for a chat, seems the owner has finally decided to sell it. Hopefully it will be sold and then everyone in this condo (50 houses or so) will be occupied.

Re: Very close to buying now
That's [hopefully] good; we have the opposite situation.
Since we arrived, the neighbors on both sides and in the back have moved out.
The place in back has been given over to tourist rentals, one side is for sale, the other for rent.

Re: Very close to buying now
We have seen a huge upsurge in property sales around Lagos.Even though our neighbours had to leave because of getting fleeced by BES. New long term renters have moved in.One of the tourist rents next to us has also just been sold privately(hope thats a good thing) YD who is in the business is still busy with appointments well into December.

Hi, my only bit of advice - which you may have already covered as your wife and her family are from Portugal, is; check the best way to change your sterling to Euro. There are many types of money changing specialists - and they do offer pretty good rates, but I have found the best rate is to send Sterling direct to my Portugal Bank account (set one up now if you haven't already) - they then do an internal conversion from sterling to Euro, the last time it was pretty close to the market rate - I use Banif by the way. Good luck - take advantage of the 1.40 rate while it lasts
