Used pallets?
Hi all
Anyone know where I can hold of used pallets please? Happy to pay a reasonable cost. I'd really like some to make my compost bins. We did get some with building materials we bought from our local builders merchant, only he came round and wanted them back after we had used the bricks etc. Otherwise he would charge 10euros for each one! Shame that we had already cut one up to make a shoe rack.........
We are in Central Portugal near Figueiro dos Vinhos
Many thanks

I also need 2 for the same purpose & am in the same area so please do let me know if you have any luck & I'll let you know if I can find some.
I guess Fi Cape might be worth a try?

Re: Used pallets?
Pallets seem to be highly prized here; they're not considered waste material.
I have a pallet fork on my tractor so I wanted a stack of usable pallets to use as pallets.
The "europallets" are 80 x 120 and have wood below as well as above. they're durable and sell for 5 to 10 euros; they're considered returnable and interchangable. They have a lot of big nails in the and big fiber blocks as spacers.
Cheaper "1 way" pallets have less and thinner wood, with no lower bracing and fewer nails.
I suggest if you want wood, better to buy new. Old wood in Portugal is often infected with wood eating bugs. Not good to bring into your house.

Re: Used pallets?
Hiya Liveaboard
Thanks for the info regarding pallets. I have found a lot of pallets being used as trendy furniture etc when previously renting properties over here - so knew they must be getting the pallets from somewhere. Ok, thanks for explaining about the 2 types of pallets over here and the warning about bugs.
As you have a tractor - I take it that you have plenty of land?? If so, what have you built your compost heap from?
thanks

Re: Used pallets?
I don't compost or grow anything except some fruit.
I use the tractor to mow it all down once ever couple of weeks.
Sorry, I haven't got any great insights for you. Stone? Logs?
I have about 20 felled pines I don't need, but I think I'm too far from you.

Problem solved...... I've got 4 coming this week so we'll have 2 each.
