Now the Brit CAA has announced that it will take Enforcement Action against Ryanair - the first step before legal action.
BUT ultimately, they can't ground or ban the airline as it's not-UK registered, but EU registered so control comes under the EU.

What action has ever been taken against BA for its repeated system failures, or luggage fiascos at Heathrow, none.

Agreed EMR, it’s exactly as you say - It never has been or pretended to be a UK airline.
So, my point/s are;

1. Why even keep such a regulator when it can’t follow through, (as I think many would like), because the marketplace is necessarily controlled by international treaty/ convention. If it's a domestic watchdog OK, but it's clearly not fit for that domestic purpose when international problems affect UK nationals.
2. Why intervene NOW;- not last week when the 1st tranche of cancellations were announced. (Correct me here, but I recall they were asked at the time and they made some mealy-mouthed statement about ‘monitoring'??)
3. Doesn't it seem an odd thing for the CAA head to say he’s ‘furious’ this week when his organisation without ultimate teeth was 'monitoring' things last week;- so who told him to be 'furious' this particular week....?

Agreed, nobody does a thing about IAG (BA's) failings. I like to think of it as one of Life's Great Mysteries - why is water wet, how far is up, etc, etc....

I feel quite sure massive amount of people will still use Ryanair. They are far and away the cheapest airline to fly within Europe.

Seriously though, as my nearest usable airport is Stansted (and the transport links to Southend are all but useless) I don't have a lot of choice unless I want to add a lot more time and cost to each trip to/from Portugal.

Also whether people like it or not, when Monarch go into administration tomorrow, Ryanair will be picking up all that trade as well

I'd like to think so EMR, but if I run a company providing the fuel, catering, or maintenance .... aren't I going to ask for pro-forma payment - I'd not be too interested which part of the company was holidays and which flights...
