Default Renting in Winter months

Hi all. My wife and I are both retired, and are becoming disillusioned with the weather here in the UK every Winter. We are considering renting a property in Portugal during the Winter
Months. Initially just need advice on who to approach for further advice to get the wheels in motion? All advice appreciated. John K

While you could look at local property rentals, why not just go through the likes of TripAdvisor, Airbnb etc. If you rent locally, it usually means a rental contract, extra bills and so on. Especially if you don't speak the language, you would have to go through an agent who speaks English. I've seen some decent aparthotels, with pool, sometimes breakfast, all included starting €600 a month. No hassle and you are flexible. Quick search and I've just seen offer for 4 star apartment with pool for €22 a night, directly on the beach. That's €660 for 30 night stay.

We used Homeaway and Owners Direct UK and basically emailed everyone who had vacant months on their calendar. When they replied we negotiated as some owners prefer to have a tenant than leave the property vacant. Yes we did achieve a reasonable discount on a property for a couple of winter months and so much less hassle than searching for properties on other sites.

I used Jacaranda Holidays and rented a place in the Tavira Hills for 4 months. It was seamless.

If I may ask, how much did you pay? They seem a bit pricey on website. For example the cheapest winter let I see is €750 (Electricity excluded)

€400 a month electricity excluded but bear in mind it was quite far up into the hills and probably wouldn't suit many.
