Re: Rentals
Hi,
I'd be very carefull about renting your apartment out long term.
I have heard some absolute horror stories about this.
The same rules that apply in the UK don't apply in Portugal, but as a rule if you have a Tenant in the UK as long as they pay the rent they can stay as long as they want wether it be 1 year, 10 years or 100 years. So if you want to use the place yourself or sell it you can have really big problems. This is different if it's furnished or fixed contract but I don't think this applies in Portugal except with Holiday lets ie; 3 month or 6 month lets.
As far as I know the rules are weighted even more in favour of the Portuguese nationals, so please do your homework before you even consider it.
This forum is a very good way to get all the info you need but always seek advice. I have and it's already saved me a lot of problems.
Is there anyone out there who can fill us all in???
Dave
