Fire ban

Re: Fire ban
We haven't have any rain here yet, aside from a short deluge a month ago.
I've been digging some service trenches through my place, and it's DRY all the way.
Here in Aljezur they don't permit fire based on the date, but on the weather. I always have a big brush pile by the time permissions are granted again.
A little rain is predicted for next week; but what we need is daily rains for months to recharge the aquifers and reservoirs.

Re: Fire ban
Had a couple of rather large fires not too far from us yesterday - the first we've had all summer.
No way are we lighting anything until we've had more rain.

Re: Fire ban
I can only speak for my area which incidentally was badly hit in the June 17th fires but here even the grass burned completely & heavy rain now will cause shed loads of erosion because there's nothing left to hold the soil together.
What we really need is a mild winter with lots of gentle rain that will encourage new growth & stabilise the soil.
But of course, we'll get what we get & have to make the most of it.

Re: Fire ban
We went to Lousa last week to visit the chestnut festival, looks like someone forgot to tell them the fire ban was still in place, was like a January morning in 1960 with the smog / smoke from the burning of cuttings
