Default MEO contract when change owners

Hi,
We complete on purchase of holiday home near Lagos today

The current owner has a MEO ADSL 24mb internet + phone contract, which we are happy to take over.

Does anyone know how to go about this as we are in UK until later next month when we visit? Can the current owner just change by filling a form in with MEO etc.

Exciting times ahead

Yes it is possible. The actual owner of the line/telephone number will need to contact MEO and fill out the right forms, provide a letter consenting to the process. probably a MEO store in Lagos where it can be done. You will probably need to have a Fiscal Number so MEO can register you.

I think you will have to make your own new contract with MEO (or a competitor) and the vendor will have to make his own arrangements to cancel his existing service. The same would normally apply with water & electricity. Take meter readings now, regardless of whose contract is 'paying' for the time being. It's usually easier to get a new contract up & running than to end an existing one, so the services will probably continue for a while.

If possible check that MEO are actually delivering sufficiently more than 12Mbps (the entry-level tariff) to justify paying for 24Mbps. It's easy to pay for an upgrade later - difficult to downgrade the contract once established. We pay for 12 but only get 8 but it's steady and serves for IPTV.

We went to the Meo shop together with the current owners to do this. Check how long is outstanding though as the contracts are normally 2 years and you will be tied in till it expires.Like Richard says check what service is actually being received.
