Re: Huge drop in EU nurses since Brexit vote
So are you suggesting that it's untrue that half the world seems to be willing to risk life & limb to get into the UK by any & all means possible?
As for hostility in general that can happen anywhere........ it even happens here in Portugal from a very occasional idiot but of course it's rarely right.

I also saw that and my guess is it's at least partly scaremongering and/or anti Brexit etc.
I appreciate there may well be a temporary & very large drop in applications during this in between period but I really can't see people with such skills being refused visas etc after Brexit..... So perhaps it's another reason for everyone involved to get their skates on instead of dragging their feet as they've done for the past 12 months.
Time now for me to climb into my nuclear bunker & close the door before all the attacks begin! lol!

Please do not start yet another war between those who voted out and those who did not because I do not wish to be forced into closing another thread due to this.

It's about the future of the UK and all of us who either live full or part time out of the UK.
The brexit debate is over it is now about what brexit will mean.

I don't recognise my country anymore when I hear from ex-oat friends .and some brits . how hostile it has become for ALL foreigners now.
I posted that my Danish friend now refuses to remain in her Kent village. She has told her ( Irish ) OH that they will have to move otherwhere? as she can't stand the atmosphere anymore. and she will not apologise for being Danish. . On another post I talked about the exodus from business schools. One Lecture's Italian wife being berated at Gatwick for not speaking English..
. A poisonous atmosphere has been allowed to grow.We feel it here in Portugal now. A letter in last weeks local paper was from an angry Brit. whose car broke down on the A22 .As he went for help, his wife remained with the car. It's quite a rare occurrence so two policemen stopped to check their regulation jackets and triangle were in place, but moved off. (he complained about that? )
As she waited, a huge 4X4 drove up with Portuguese number plates.. He didn't offer help, just drove over the triangle and gave her a 'look' before driving off. Not nice I agree.. (but actually no way of knowing the nationality of the driver) The writer went on to berate the Portuguese, the country etc for half a page, ending with .'We are no longer considering moving to Portugal now. '
See..Not so funny when the boot is on the other foot is it.

The letter page in question is full of negative Portuguese comments.
A letter does not prove anything, we have no idea if the events desbribed are true or not.
I sometimes question the agenda of the English news outlets in Portugal.

"I sometimes question the agenda of the English news outlets in Portugal."
IMHO most of them are poor clones of their Fleet St. icons complete with poor editorial skills and UKIP style copy to boot!
They rarely report anything positive about Portugal and are an embarrassment!
I was in the SEF in Portimão a few weeks ago and was chatting to one of the officers.
I speak,read & write Portuguese.
He was fine with me & opened up.
However, he was not complimentary at all about the attitude of many Brit long-term residents and their "I'm a Brit, I don't have to speak Portuguese" who pass by his desk!
Quite embarassing!
