Fires and be a good Expat
OK this was not the news any of the members on this Forum expected but it's happened so what can we do.
Today i went to the local supermarket and got 12 X 5lt bottles of water for the Bombeiros behind me in the queue was another English voice i didn't recognize who had loads of water and bananas again for the Bombeiros.
When i turned up i just emptied my van and left without giving my name. Gois may not be near the fires but lets look after the people who look after USE.
If every member who reads this donates something it will be a big help and it's a small price for what they do.
Please don't reply with Oh great idea Peter just do something to help.

We're actually meeting our mayor on Wednesday and will be asking what we all, in this area, can do to help.
We already donate money each year, for them to spend on what they need.
We will also be giving water etc this week - we've not had too many fires here yet.

We raise money every year Peter-- Enough this year to buy a brand new ambulance. which prompted Lagos to buy a second one.
OH and I just popped in to the Lagos branch to see if they needed anything.and to pass on our condolences. They told us that their storage in Monchique was still full from contributions made for the last big fire.. Ok for the time being... Its obvious though that they are ill equipped to fight huge forest fires with men and machines on the ground. (just lost a brand new specialist fire truck in the blaze on Monchique last month)
We need planes and specially trained pilots.. as used in California and other parts of the USA. Anyone know a multimillionaire' ?I hear Madonna has just moved to Sintra maybe she will donate.

Hi All
In this heat the best thing to give is water so they can remain rehydrated. I have just been for a third time with water and when they ask my name i just say you don't need to know.
Please just give a little you don't need praise

I have to say they must have the most courageous firemen in the world. It is one thing fighting a fire in a building where a fire is somewhat contained, another where it isn't and can change direction so suddenly and violently. Going in knowing that, no way can they outrun these if by chance they need to.
Having been involved in a very minor wheat-field fire, I absolutely take my hat off to these guys, I could never do that job.

It's a long shot ,but seems I have a better chance than them getting anything from the government. Forest fires are seen as unimportant, lives of fireman ditto.
Maybe this tragedy will change minds ..Once the fuss has died down though I doubt it.
