Re: A22 Tolls - 2018
There is an ongoing €10 refurbishment scheme on the bridge been about 6mths so far. Most work happening underneath at the moment but will come up top eventually and finish with lighting the top of the towers but that is a way off. The EU are chipping in as usual but the bridge was built with EU MONEY so I don’t suppose they want see the investment deterioat more than it has already. Uncomfortable as the surface might feel the problems are with the structure and the cables.

Here's the Algrave Daily News take on it. I didn't get an invite to the party......

During the 2015 election process that resulted in António Costa becoming prime minister, Costa stated that he would reduce the tolls on the Via do Infante to zero, thus freeing the clogged EN125 which is not a ‘viable alternative route,’ as defined by the government's own criteria.
News that the tolls went up on January 1st was doubly unwelcome. Firstly as proof that the current PM has no intention on keeping his word and secondly, as the increase will be trousered by Infraestruturas de Portugal whose €170,000 launch party in 2015 still defies polite description.
The concession deal remains a State secret, the contract exit cost is unknown and those who signed this iniquitous concession deal have never faced questions as to how on earth tolls on the Via do Infante represent good value for taxpayers who now pay tolls, a concession holder subsidy and for the maintenance of the road, parts of which clearly are in an appalling condition.
