Hi All,

My girlfriend and I have taken the plunge and moved out to Portugal.

We have secured an apartment in Olhao which is great.

We are treating this as a bit of a career break (planning to stay for a year) and are living off savings ... however if we could get a bit of work here or there that would be great.

Our Portuguese is poor (we are learning) so it would need to be an English speaking job. I have something sorted but my girlfriend doesn't.

Does anyone know of any English speaking jobs in our locale (no car)? Or indeed have any advice?

I am thinking babbysitting or something. I appreciate it might be very tricky to get anything.

Congrats on taking the plunge and well done for finding something for yourself. Has to be said though that Portugal is hardly the land of opportunity right now - imagine landing in a remote Cornish village and looking for a job without being able to speak English to get an idea of your chances ;-)

That said, if your other half is IT savvy, there is work to be found online - check out sites like eLance and oDesk.

Yeah we have a few irons in the fire re online, my stuff is all online, seems the best bet
