Claims because they didn't know the food wouldn't be English, and that the people spoke Spanish.

Hi All

For those who don't know how to translate from Portuguese to English below is a translation from Desacatos em Albufeira obrigam a reforçar segurança - Portugal - Correio da Manhã.

A pitched battle, carried out by some 600 English tourists, between the 19 and the 22 years, marked the dawn of yesterday in the zone of the bars of the Oura, in Albufeira. There were aggressions and bottles were thrown by the tourists against the GNR of Albufeira, that in the meantime had been alerted and that had to use the force. The situation forced the GNR to strengthen security in the area. Witnesses of violence in Albufeira tell what happened Video Witnesses of violence in Albufeira tell what happened Rua da Oura was the scene of clashes this Sunday night. At least two boys, aged 20 and 21, and a girl of 20, were injured and were assisted by firefighters. One of them went to the Faro hospital. "We were at the party, but then the police arrived and the military and the boys started to beat each other." Police used the stick and there were shots, everyone was scared, a friend of mine was injured, "he told CM, Chelsea, a 21-year-old Londoner who was part of the tour group. Disturbances in the night of Albufeira among tourists make several injured Video Disturbances in the night of Albufeira among tourists make several injured GNR had to intervene in the street of the bars of Oura. Disrespect started inside the Liberto's bar in Oura. "Hundreds of tourists have taken over the bar and our security guards have not been able to control them. We have to call the GNR, to disperse," said Liberto Mealha, the owner of the space, who defended the need for " Of tourist agents and hoteliers to avoid this kind of situation, "namely" end up with groups that are too big. "

For those who can translate then please don't leave a link without first translating so you help others less able. After all it only took 2 minutes to translate.

To be fair, this sort of thing isn't confined to British people. There are notorious annual events within Portugal involving Portuguese university students and annual pilgrimmages of large groups of school-age youths to Spain, one of which this year culminated in 1,000 of them being expelled from a hotel in Torremelinos.

The Algarve daily news has a detailed report including the expected claim of police over reaction.
No doubt We will see similar anti PT police reports in the UK tabloids.

Well at least the tabloids have reported on it - currently no mention on the BBC (news website).

It all depends.

Personally, I think if people who are actually causing problems under these sort of circumstances find themselves on the wrong end of a police baton or whatever, they've only got themselves to blame, although I've always been disturbed when I see pictures of police repeatedly hitting people with extreme force about the head or the midriff, especially when they're clearly no longer presenting a threat.

Unfortunately though, here and elsewhere, the police on the rampage appear not always to be as careful as they might be about restricting their targets only to troublemakers, so bystanders and witnesses can sometimes find themselves on the end of some summary justice, despite not having done anything other than just being there or possibly simply trying to get away from any trouble.
