Change of doors
Hi we have a garage on the side of the house with big metal doors, we don't use the garage to put in a car so ideally I would like to get rid of the doors brick one side up and put in a normal lighter door. Do I need permission to do this or can I just go ahead.
Thanks π

Hi
Lots of Camara's have a different view on what the law says so really it's best to ask them. But why not ask them for permission to fill in the doorway with a window, but don't mention your house. You just want to find out what to do so mention another house in the area. Don't bring attention to your house until you need to.
I know personally someone who did this and i did this when i wanted a door onto my veranda i asked about making my window a little bigger and i was told that it was not a problem.
It's worth a try.

I did the opposite; hacked a big hole in the house to add a garage door.
I did ask for permission and was granted it in a very short time; it seems this sort of thing is pretty easy, not considered much of a change.

Hi thanks for your replies I understand what your saying GenieB and I can get my other half to do what I decide as he's a builder/joiner by trade lol I just wanted to be on the right side of the law. Things are not as easy as at home when you can virtually take out and put in what you wantπ

Re: Change of doors
Changing the doors " converting garages into living space " is quite common if not strictly legal.
Have see some who even keep the old garage door to mask the changes they have made.

Not sure about the "legal", more likely to be attempting to avoid higher tax....
