Hi All,
Am planning to get back to Tavira on Feb13th (Carnaval). Anyone know what's going on in the Tavira area then?

After living in the Netherlands for 30+ yrs.. I avoid any kind of carnival like the plague !!! It was always raining ,or freezing cold, often snowing. Everyone got flu. I was not surprised to see that that happens here too. Happily I will be in the USA this year.. where it will be.... um...snowing for sure. ugh.

The carnival season in Somerset is traditionally in November related in part to the Guy Fawkes celebrations. The season includes illuminated float processions held at various towns in Somerset over a period of a fortnight. They're a wonderful sight and it's a very old tradition which raises a lot of money for charity, but the time of year means it's always cold and often very wet, unlike South American carnivals.

We were in a restaurant one rainy windy February in Tavira about 10 years ago and will never forget my husband suddenly saying, "flipping heck (or words to that effect) a giant strawberry has just walked past the window". We hadn't realised it was Carnaval time, but were then highly entertained for the rest of the afternoon, from the warmth of the restaurant and plenty of house wine . . . loved it.
