Re: Calais to Coimbra by Car
in Portugal i usually head to evora using the ic1 from the Algarve- west or head to beja- evora from the east
then evora - estramos -elvas - Spain - badajos using the local route to avoid the tolls
So Portugal toll free and it only takes 15 -30 minutes longer
spain - cheap toll roads - so i always use them
badajos - Salamanca - Valladolid - Burgos - vitoria gasteiz - donostia- san sebastian
there is a shortcut that goes san sebastian to biarrits - avoiding some of the horrible border crossing - but easy to get lost
France ----
it usually without pushing things takes 8 hours or less to get to France - best for me was 6 hours 30 worst 10 hours with big queques at the border - August
France - i usually push hard day and go beyond bordeaus on the first day - average 10 hours or less - 2 fuel stops 1 food stop
i always take lots of water and snacks - dehydration can easily be a problem on long journies and you often dont realise it
France - overnight - somewhere between bordeaus and angouleme
i use the n10 from bordeaus to angouleme - avoids an ecpensive toll and doesnt take much longer
i stay on the n10 to poitier -avoid another toll - nice road mostly dual carriageway
then bite the bullet and take the tolls a28 - tres chere - but saves hours
poitier- tours -le mans - rouen
follow the signs along the coast to calais
never more than 8 hours from bordeaus - without going crasy i did it in 6-30 hours early in the morning
16 - 17 hours average to calais - i would guess 1 hour - 1 hour 30 less from coimbra
