Default Barclays Tavira Closing

Hi All

Had a letter today from Barclays with comments like "strategic upward shift in our service model" "premium value proposition", "more efficient and to reach out our customers in more suitable manner", "streamlining some of our services where your current account is". (sorry about some of the English comments but copied it exactly).

At the end of the day, closing the Tavira branch and downsizing.

The alternative, seem's to be Faro (some hope) so now looking for a new bank in Tavira. Any recommendations?

Kind regards

John

We've used Millennium for years and have no problem with them at all.

For what its worth, have found Millenium on-line site quite good and easy to use but staff can be a little "difficult" at times.

Montepio staff are very helpful but on-line site not quite so user friendly.

Both in Tavira.

Just my own findings.

Barclays have to be the most despicable and unethical banks of all...... and that really is saying something.

Do a Google search on Barclays Bank and Robert Mugabe and you'll see they have been funding the murderous, genocidal and illegal regime of Robert Mugabe to the tune of something in the region of USD100M each and every year for no apparent reason or return.

The subject has been raised in the House of Commons by Norman Lamb MP on several occasions and they have flatly refused to give any explanation whatsoever...... and proof of that can also be found on Google.

We use Montepio for personal and business accounts and are very happy with them, very flexible and no silly charges. I think there online service is easy to use but I have never used another Portuguese one so I can't compare. I think the site is now also available in English. Considered changing to millennium recently but hear too many complaining about charges.

On the Barclays thing, one opened in my town about two years ago and has already closed!

Hi All

Thanks for the info so far. We need a bank with a good online service in English.

Kind regards

We have used BES in Tavira for eight years and found their on-line English service very good. The staff in branch are also friendly and all speak excellent English. I would recommend them.

We too have been with BES in Tavira for nine years or so. Couldn't wish for better customer service. Here you can actually talk to your bank manager. Ignore the bad press, the staff make up for it and I'm sure it'll come good soon. Good English website and even better iPad app, let's you do everything on the sofa.

Thanks for the replies.

Two each so far for BES and Millennium. Next question, what are the charges for a standard current account. Barclays were charging Euro 8 per month as they put it "an essential fee" plus IVA.plus what charges apply for BEX and Millennium please.

Kind regards

John

We will have to change from Barclays in the New Year as well. Can anyone let me know what we may be expected to do. I am sure its not an easy process . . . but may be pleasantly surprised.

Hi Saz1

In 2006 when we first set up an account it was with Santander in Moncarapacho and then in 2008 changed to Barclay's as we bank with them in the UK.

Changing was easy with them setting up the DD's we had and no issues. So,fingers crossed that the new bank we choose will be as painless.

Thanks for info Jonny22 looked on their website and it mentions a Euro 15 per month charge.

Kind regards John
