In reality, the customer rarely has a choice of courier; the seller uses who they always use.
That firm [ie, royal mail] chooses a corresponding courier service in the delivery country, based on careful consideration [who is cheapest].

The only way to avoid GLS is to not order goods by mail from the UK.

Anyway, after Brexit there will be taxes and formalities added that will eliminate the urge to do so.

GLS is Royal Mail
https://www.logisticsmanager.com/gls...ne-royal-mail/

Totally agree with you, but I always telling the seller what a crap delivery GLS is and maybe they might change courier. Makes me feel better as well.

In the end I just do my best to avoid sellers that use Royal Mail for deliveries to here (sometimes I don't realise until too late). Not everyone in the UK uses Royal Mail.

I often buy from the continent (remember when we used to use that word?), amazon.de is good, and there are plenty of others both large and small.

I just got a reply from [email protected] just asking for tracking number etc. He totally ignored the fact that this was not about one package, surprise surprise. In the meantime the seller has given me a refund and asked me to fill in a complaint form. I reordered from someone who doesnt seem to use Royal mail.

Admittedly, a small uncontrolled stats sample and from a complaints forum Portal da Queixa, but might give some indication of relative service:

From https://www.publico.pt/2017/12/23/ec...tregar-1796971

Numbers in brackets are number of complaints between 1 de Oct & 14 Dec 2017

"Os CTT são a empresa que mereceu, de forma destacada, o maior volume de reclamações - deu origem a quase um milhar (almost 1000) de reclamações contabilizadas apenas a partir de Outubro. Seguem-se-lhe a GLS (257 queixas), a Chronopost (173), a Seur (152), a MRW (88) e a DHL (37).

Hi All

Sadly again a supplier has used GLS for a parcel coming to me and it's late. However i will contact them and give them 24hrs and then i will use the complaints book as i have with Meo on a number of occasions.

I have translated from the previous post about complaint numbers but these numbers are a waste of time unless it's done via the complaints book. From July 7th complaints books have to be online for various companies. In the case for Meo the date was in October so when you call GLS ask if there compalints book is online yet as there is a phased in period for companies to have there complaints book online.

Hope that helps.

Peter

"CTT is the company that deserves, in a remarkable way, the largest volume of complaints - it originated almost a thousand (almost 1000) of complaints accounted for only from October. It is followed by GLS (257 complaints), Chronopost (173), Seur (152), MRW (88) and DHL (37).

On the contrary, companies and brands such as NACEX, Go Express, FedEx, Rangel and Via Directa have a high level of satisfaction, complaints submitted, in which consumers recommend their services, through the satisfaction survey placed in their consideration "

IMAGINE MY UTTER SURPRISE!!!!

OH and I went to lunch yesterday with some friends who live at the top of a very steep hill,at the end of an equally steep and difficult track ,overlooking Lagos..

In the middle of said lunch their doorbell rang. Friend returns some minutes later with a package. I am stunned. 'Did you just have that delivered directly to your house'? I enquired. 'Yes ' he said 'by GLS' 'They said they had tried to deliver it yesterday, but I was out.which was BS because we waited in for them especially. Aghhhhhhhhhh.
'So... Lets get this straight... They came yesterday..from Faro.. Then again today. Negotiated an off the main road track, around a campsite,up a steep unmarked hill. Then again up another unmarked track our 4X4 found tricky. To find your house at the end of a cul-de-sac' . All without GPS or phoning you '? 'YEP' ! he said. a tad bewildered. 'How long have you waited for this package' ? I asked. 'Oooh about five days' he said

I had to lie down in a darkened room.

This endless topic came up in the Portugal News a few weeks ago. A reader had been sent a mobile phone from the UK. Tracked all the way to the Faro warehouse of GSL ,where it simple vanished. Endless toing's and froing's by the frustrated and angry owner. I replied but then never saw if it was printed or not as personal events overtook. The man had enough written evidence (tracking no's ) to take his case to the police. I sincerely hope he did.

I usually put my GPS coordinates on my address [our road has no name].
Recently, for the very first time, it worked!
the driver had the brains to use his 'smart' phone's gps function, typed in the numbers, and drove right to my from gate.
Amazing.
It was not GLS.

A lot has to do with the driver; some people do try to get their work done, and even think about how to do it.
I've had a lot of deliveries from GLS too; maybe 90% went ok, 10% I had to call.
Some items sent royal mail came through CTT.
Eventually.
