1 FT wiper blades?
My Honda HRV instruction book describes in detail with pictures how easy it is to replace the rear screen wiper blade rubber without having to buy the whole rear wiper assembly arm
Unfortunately so far i have been unable to find a windscreen wiper blade anywhere that is 1ft (30 cms ) long
There are some pretty small motors driving around Portugal, those little two seat cars Aixam (spelling) spring to mind, what size blades do they use?
Anyone know where i can get a 1ft wiper blade?

When you find one, you might like to let Dennis and Whotsit know where you found it, as they are also asking on two other forums where to locate a 1ft wiper blade

It is usually best to replace the full wiper blade as the springs wear and do not keep the blade rubber in contact with the screen as they should. If this is being done before an inspection and it fails then saving a few cents for the sake of the ship could be more expensive. Sorry about the metaphor.

I had a Honda HRV and when just replacing the blade bought a slightly larger one and cut it to size but used the metal inserts from the old blade.
However, I agree with 1711JohnB it is better to change the whole thing, especially with the rear wiper as it needs the springs to keep it against the glass - it doesn't have the aid of the wind like the front wipers.

Seems a shame to replace the whole arm assembly when it`s only the rubber that`s needed........but i hear what your saying.

However i have noticed more Honda HRVs here in Portugal than ever i did in the UK...(probably because i didn`t have one in the UK) ...surely all those HRV owners don`t have to cut up a wiper to fit?
I have found a Portuguese HRV owners club online, have registered and asked the question.........Here`s hoping.

When I was youngster starting out in the motor trade we only ever replaced the "squeegee" the rubber part by inserting a new squeegee into the existing blade.
Blades being sold complete were a natural evolvement like many other car parts as it became uneconomical to seperately market individual components.
We very often even today "reblade" (insert a new squeegee) as manufacturers tend to have different fitments where the blade meets the arm. Obviously as we are a franchised dealer we would keep blades for our cars but not for non-franchise so we keep a selection of "cheap aftermarket blades" and use the rubbers from them.
However we had an occassion the other week with a new Mini and they had made the blade a different width fitting than normal so you had to buy a new complete blade.
Oh for the days of wind up by hand windows and only one bumper option etc. Unfortunately the motor industry is now so complicated with all the different components and chassis number range changes etc that I can't wait to retire!
However most of these changes have been brought on by us, the consumer, as we are always demanding something more / new / different.
Only another three years of it to go.
Sorry to write a sermon from the humble beginnings of a wiper blade.

Re: 1 FT wiper blades?
Update
In the end following advice from members of the HRV Portugal forum i bought a single 35cm blade from Intermarche for 4.99 and cut to size, easy peasy........if it lasts a year at that price i`m happy.
I count myself lucky that the rear wiper on a Honda HRV isn`t a fancy model specific job.
