Residency/Job Application
Hi there, apologies if this has already been covered in the forum but I can't seem to find anything....
I, like many others, are looking for a better life out with the UK. Looking at Australia and Canada forces mainly, (job transfer hopefully) and they seem to say
'Overseas officers can apply ONLY if the residency requirement is met PRIOR to submitting an application'
Does anyone know if and how permanent residency is possible without a job offer?
Thanks in advance,
Gordon

Gordon unless you have another skill in the Skill Select list you are pretty much stuffed like the rest of us. You need 60 points and it's a hard total to achieve.
What about your other half?

Re: Residency/Job Application
Thanks for the reply DB. I also have 9 years in architecture but I'm not a fully qualified architect which doesn't really help. Probably stuck all round, seen as the wife's job is on the CSOL list in Australia same as the police and neither of our jobs are on the federal skills list for Canada. Great.

If you need any help, have a look in our Australian forums - http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=54 or give us a shout.
Can't help with Canada though - don't think you would have much success with the police though. There was one recent thread on the subject - http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=785883 - but the most recent comments do not look good.

You won't get a TWP or PR for Canada as a police officer, but what does your wife do?

Re: Residency/Job Application
Thanks for the responses.
My wife's employed as a human resource adviser. Having done more digging, it would appear that canada is a no go and we would need to apply to Australia via the 190 visa (my wife as main applicant as she gets more points than me due to due difference in profession)
I think now it would be a case of to apply or not to apply. We have been swithering with perhaps seeking the services of a migration agent as we don't know exactly what the entire process involves, if it's complicated or not etc etc.
We're making progress which is the important bit though
