It would be a bit more feature-y than the Mail piece which is straight news and mainly based on the experiences of the officer who has already taken the plunge. I anticipate your part would simply be a few lines of quotes saying why you are considering making the move now. As for them being swamped with applications - the Mail sells six times more papers than us...
If you, or somebody else in a similar situation, would like to help just give me a bell on 020 79387710.
All the best whatever your decision,
Lech

Hi,
I would be quite happy to chat with you anonymously, however do not feel i would be able to offer you much in the way of 'interesting reading'. My story is more enough the same as most people, and that is moving for what I BELIEVE will be a better life for both myself and wife.. and a great place to bring children up....when we decide to have them

I too have sent NZ my CV and the cover sheet. Though I do often wonder why an overseas police service cant recruit from within.

If they have a retention problem, WHY?
If no locals wish to join up, WHY?

I'm not daft enough for a second to think that UK officers are so far advanced in training that they'll take us over their own people.

That rag is the policy maker for the Conservatives in London.
I would recommend that nobody tells you anything, as it will get twisted by your editor.

Hi guys, just come onto this forum for the first time. Interesting reading. I will be going down to London for an interview and a fitness test in a couple of weeks and would like to hear from anyone in a similar position and what they are expecting from the interview/joining the police in NZ etc.

Hi, i am in the same boat mate, interviewing on 05/11/05. Us northern lads are not used to travelling South. In relation to the interview i have no clue what they will ask, i am thinking they will probably concentrate on each candidate to see if they really want to get over to NZ. I hope they don t ask any awkward questions in relation to NZ law etc. They will ask if we know about the history of the place, anyway let me have your thoughts. If you go first i am open to being fully contaminated. Mick.

Cheers Mick. I don't think there will be questions on Law but you're probably right about History etc. I don't think they will go down the model for behavioural interviewing or else they would have given us categories to concentrate on, Leadership, Judgement etc.so who knows. We're still a bit undecided because they haven't sold it very well so far. Hopefull all will be revealed in the interview, like where they want us to work. Good luck with your interview and fitness test, it will be an experience if nothing else!

Hagey and Mick...I am also on my to London for the interview and fitness test etc..Not sure what to expect of the interview, but no point in worrying about it. I hope they have plenty of people on hand to answer questions, because i have a stack of them. It would be handy to know though, where we will be stationed (if successful), before we fly out.

Welcome, the list grows, i agree that information on locations is slow, but i have a pal serving out there and he reckons that Auckland is the place that has been ear marked for the successful few. Any one had any ideas about their police pension ? Just one minor question i have ! Mick.

The pension will be frozen until you are sixty unless you want to contact a select number of companies who can transfer it to a private pension scheme in NZ for you. One thing to bear in mind though if you do that, remember that you will also pay 7.5% into the superannuation fund for the NZ police and its obligatory. I personally won't be paying into two funds as it would be quite expensive. On the other hand I have completed half my service already so when I get to 60 the pension I get from here will be worth more in NZ so I should be doing okay. Mick, what does your friend think of working in NZ and in particular Auckland? What does he reckon about the NZ police?
