British Expats - British policing in Magaluf

So, According to the Daily Mirror A couple of West Midlands constables are walking the beat in Magaluf to deal with the torrent of drunk Brit tourists in the town.

However, it seems that expats claim that its a waste of time and money, and the Bobbies have been seen posing for selfies and catching rays on the beat. It's a month-long paid holiday for them at the British taxpayer's expense.

Also they arrived in August - at the fag end of the tourist season. Oh, and they won't do night shifts (which is, of course, when they're most needed).

Can I suggest an alternative?

Why don't expats whose businesses work in Magaluf/Majorca take advantage of Spain's Citizen's Security Law which permits security guards to have basic police powers in pedestrianized/high crime risk areas.

OK a number of places that rely on tourism now have "tourist police" made up from members of the expat community. Thailand's Phuket is an obvious example, however, it is also being rolled out in Bournemouth too (of all places!) where security guards accredited with basic policing powers patrol a shopping centre.

The Magaluf pub crawl outrage of last year MUST'VE hurt the island's tourism-based economy this year. Who wants to take kids on a family holiday and risk them seeing the usual drunken antics of younger tourists?

More to the point, I'm an ex PC and ex RMP redcap! I'm prepared to put my money where my mouth is. If any expat business owners would be prepared to join me, I would develop such a project.
