Default Sprinkler fitters in Oz what is needed to get licensing in QLD

I've been here 15 months now and I've had to jump through all sorts of hoops to try and get my licensing.

Most if not all sprinkler fitter in the UK have learned there trade serving time on building sites only. If you have any or can get yourself through as many courses to do with sprinklers instillation I would highly recommend you do so, because I spent over 20 years in the industry back in the UK and because I'd no formal qualification this is where things get tricky, if not impossible to get your licenses.

Firstly I recommend you having a very detailed resume, very similar to the information you needed to pass your TRA but more detailed to every task and job you have carried out.

Secondly get as many references as possible because you will need all this information and everything above to apply for an R.P.L

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows you to have your current skills and knowledge assessed to determine if they meet Australian industry standards.

The only training board that carries out rpl for sprinkler fitters is J.I.S.T

http://www.jist.com.au/

J.I.S.T will assess your skills against a certificate lll in fire protection.

This will cost you $1000 but you can get funding from http://www.csq.org.au/ for the full amount.

This is a rough idea to what you need to prove you have carried out in the UK.

Sorry I couldn't find a pdf for QLD but its very similar to NSW.

If your able to prove you are competant in 33 out of the 33 units which I recon you won't, you can then go onto your next stage and apply for a plumbers and drainers license.

If you can't, you then need to carry out gap training again using J.I.S.T each unit will cost you $400 but again you can get funding for upto 6 units only by using these again http://www.csq.org.au/

Once you have successfully passed all your unit you can now apply for your plumbers license.

After you have gained all this the last stop is a B.S.A

Once all this is completed which I hope to have in the next few months you will be free to work Sub-contractors earn around $60hr working on the cards around $35 .

Good luck

Feel free to email me any concerns.

I'm am now booked from the 19th April to the 30th April to complete my RPL with J.I.S.T happy days. It should all be plan sailing from here now on and I'm expecting my full licences come June, not bad as I would have been here 20 months by then and probably would have gone back to the UK if I'd know all this cr@p.
