Reminders of Britain

Cool, even chilly at times these days in Tagaytay, temperatures down to 20C at night, with a strong wind at times. Breezy and overcast in the daytime. Apparently it's a lot cooler in Baguio and even Manila felt quite cool yesterday. Made me remember past British winters...both bad and good feelings..even 1962/63! Of course, conditions here are a far away away from that, but one does need to put on some warm clothing..which seems quite ridiculous in British summer temperatures. On a good day, that is!

Which made me wonder... as, for example, with the previous thread topic, there's not much here that's either the same, feels the same, or that reminds one of Britain ...but apart from hearing or reading British news or munching on a McVities Digestive, what else is there that does that?

Raffin, it dropped down to 22 c last night in south metro, cool steady breeze, the kids loved it. Told them we are going to HK next week and it is 12C there.....they panicked as they know it means that 12 is less than 222 even if they have no idea what it means in the flesh!!

They saw us pulling out winter clothing they never seen before, now they are real worried.:))

Thankfully it did not remind me of my last winter in Norway -510C. Two blankets were on the bed last night, both used, as when I went to bed it was already down to 230C.

Thursday the weather forecast had us down for 1,150mm of rain over the weekend but that has now reduced to just over 600mm, just like any other weekend in Manchester.

When I pasted them in the 0 was in superscript , but when I hit submit, it obviously reverted to the full "0", so read -51 Degrees C and 23 Degrees C. Next time I shall try not being so lazy and just type it in in words.

Hold down "Alt" Key then on numeric keypad enter "9639"
º appears as in 360º for a circle.

Hearing the wind whistling through our gaps in windows and doors plus the rain beating on our tin roof reminds me of childhood holidays spent in my grandparents caravan near the sea front in Cleveleys near Blackpool.

Does anybody know what's going on in our bodies when 20C feels cold here, with the need to wear a track suit, while in the UK just a T shirt would be fine at that temperature? I know it's not just me as I have previously observed African students sitting in non air-conditioned rooms in the UK in summer time wearing anoraks.

Some people react to hot/cold in different ways. Those who do well in warmer climes tend to have thinner blood which when it suddenly drops a few degrees takes a bit of time to thicken up again, hence feeling cold. My Missus normally sleeps on top of the blanket with the fan on full blast, I turn the fan onto low and creep under both blankets wearing tee-shirt and long bottoms.

A few years ago in Aberdeen on one of it's few summer days I saw one of the locals wearing a woolly hat, leather jacket, shorts, long socks and sandals.
