Default Coming for a 2 week family trip

Apart from 3 days in Negros, we have a week and half of beach time. Except is going to be in the beginning of Oct, rainy season.

Is there anywhere in the Philippines that is a better bet for some sun?

The rainy season is a bit of a misnomer, it's not days of endless rain. The only time you will have consecutive days of rain will be when a typhoon is present. Also it depends where you are as different part tend to have their rain at different times. By October you should be largely over the rainy season, typhoons will be more of a problem. During July a couple of years ago we went down to Negros then Bohol and Leyte then back to Manila over 7 days and didn't see a drop of rain. Manila had something like 2 feet of rain whilst we were away.

October is the North East monsoon season, so the West side of any reasonably sized island will be dryer than the East, humidity will also be lower.
