Question around pricing for sole usage container
I was unsure where to post this message, so hopefully this is the correct place.
I am relocating from Australia to Canada, sponsored by my company.
I am using the company approved firm, still at this late stage wondering if the right thing to do.
I have been told I will have access to a 20 foot container, sole usage.
But I have had 2 different quotes from them based on items I want to take and then on top additional items I was considering.
5.5CBM - $7717 USD
8.85CBM - $8629 USD
I would have thought if I have sole usage to a container, it would not matter how much volume I was shipping as no one else would be using it.
Am I missing something?

Re: Question around pricing for sole usage container
There are a couple of different volume based costs involved with shipping. The first, as you rightly assume, is the container itself and the cost ('freight charge') to ship it which doesn't change if the volume inside it does.
The second is the packing and loading charge. Every item takes time to pack or wrap and load on the vehicle, and so the labour and material costs will be higher if you're taking more, regardless of if it still fits inside the 20ft container.
Hope that helps?
