Default GLOBAL ALERT: Cargo delays as Maersk hit by cyber attack

Global shipping firm Maersk has warned that some cargo shipments may face delays as they struggle to process orders after being hit by a cyber attack.

The Petya attack - which has hit several companies worldwide - struck Maersk on Tuesday afternoon (June 27th), leaving the company with limited access to computer systems and unable to complete the processing of some shipments.

Vincent Clerc, Maersk Line’s Chief Commercial Officer, announced yesterday that as far as shipments are concerned: “It will have an impact on vessels or cargo that loaded yesterday (Tuesday 27th June), today and maybe also tomorrow.”

At present, the advice is that the majority of vessel operations will continue as planned. Access to ports in the UK and Ireland has not been affected and all cargo currently in transit will be delivered as planned.

Import cargo will be released to credit customers and any export haulage that was due to be loaded yesterday should still be accommodated.
In a statement from Maersk yesterday, the company confirmed that it has contained the issue and are working on a technical recovery plan, as well as implementing business continuity plans to minimise the impact to customers.

If you are moving with Bournes your Move Manager will contact you if your shipment is affected, however please don’t hesitate to contact them directly if you have any concerns.
