I did almost a year in NZ back in 2004/5. I was very fortunate to be able to do it. So many people just don't get the chance. I will never be able to say "what if" now. Although it's opened a bit of a can of worms for us, I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

I love the clean side of NZ, don't like the lack of choice, both for food/clothes and how blasted expensive everything except toilet paper is here! I have to buy almost everything online via ebay to get a bargain! No choice of what to do weekends.. when you've done the beach 100 times etc etc, kelly tarltons, rainbows end blah blah - again have not made many friends - only a few UK and a couple of Kiwi ones - only felt like this for about 2 years now.... but getting worse - like a kind of depression!
I am bloody depressed too...

like Vital said,,, I don't dislike it enough here to force a return back 'home',,, Thats my di·lem·ma at the mo.

My mum IS happy in NZ. She is old and all she needs is a BIG house and BIG farm and BIG garden. and LOTS of money. Thats what makes HER HAPPy. but not the case for me -don't need such - ex) big house garden... - in fact I HATE gardening. (She doesn't need to go to classical concerts or shopping, or making boy friends etc... )

no much fun this summer really . been cold Crap weather - I have sore throat.

just back home from groceries.

bored.

rant end.

No maybe you are right. Youngsters need to 'sow their wild oats' before settling down. I now just crave peace and solitude.....

Totally agree. Run by too many wombats eh? Utterly, utterly useless. At best a bunch of charlatans, add to that the crap driving and it really IS tempting to drag my family elsewhere.

That is not the point whilst it may well be true. Point is that NZ is and has been for way too long run by 3rd/4th rate politicians with little or no balls. They make way too many crap choices, do not listen to those that elected them and have let sooooooooooooo much shite flow under NZ's little bridge its not funny.

I never, ever in 45 years or so living in the Uk felt that it was run in such a parlous manner. This country is very much like a little banana republic.

Whilst I appreciate it is great for my young kids and Kate has a fantastic career here, the country as a whole is a bit of a joke. I wonder (apart from the isolation) why 25% of the population live off shore and why soooooooooooooooo many kiwis are going to Oz. Answer? NZ is a joke in business and political terms. Just look at the Skyhawk debacle and our armed services in general.

Shame on those in charge...shame!

Delorean yes and vaguely the Eurofighter, BUT NZ I think is in another league. I really do think most of our politicians are a joke, the slapping referendum, not reducing the alco levels for driving 'Because NZ is not ready for it' when endless international reports had at that juncture said how many lives would be saved if we did drop it. Stephen Joyce in his wisdom was heard on the radio saying 'What if we did it and it did not work?', great proactive approach eh?

How gangs are allowed to proliferate in NZ is awful, whilst they do not encroach on most of our lives but they are the muscle and the organisation behind much of Nz's drug trade if you beieve what you hear in the media.

The judicial system is EVEN worse than the Uk's IMO. You can 'buy back' your licence after drink drive if you need your car for your job...duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh!!!!!! WTF??????

The Commerce Commission and two administrations let 5 BILLION $$s be lost to mr and mrs kiwi because they could/would not regulate the finance cos. What di one observer call NZ??? The 'wild west of the finance world'. Similarly they have just recently chosen not to regulate 'loan sharks' who prey on the poor.

Way worse than the UK..NZ is a tin pot country. The Chch EQ has been terribly handled from what I can glean, and now parliament is rowing about $30k a year for a deaf MP to have the correct equipment?? Mickey bloody mouse. The fact that the Greens get $500k a year to assist their endeavours is irrelevant IMO. That money was not earmarked for any incumbent MPs with a disability.

It's odd then, as a democratic country, that we never do anything about it, even though we get the chance every 3 years.
