Recommendation for a hospital
Hi folks,
Getting a bit ahead of myself, but wondering if anyone has any experience with the hospitals in the region? My Mum needs a knee replacement and I was wondering about getting it done here rather than having her on the NHS waiting list for 107 years.
I keep reading that Malaysia is one of the top places for Brits to go for medical tourism but no-one will tell me SPECIFICALLY where they go!!!
Thanks in advance,
Jessica

You probably need a recommendation from someone who has had the same operation. Bit of a long shot on here I guess.
This is probably not much help to you, but my OH has had a lot of hospital treatment over the last 2 years in Penang (and Singapore) and have to say that we've been quite impressed with the medical treatment in Malaysia (so far). We've been mostly paying private (apart from some insurance claims) and of course it's a snip compared with what you would pay private in the UK.
Erh...I don't mean that Singapore wasn't good. It was. But requires rather a lot of dosh for any hospital stay.

Re: Recommendation for a hospital
Hi Jessica
Is your Mum going to be staying with you here or just coming over for the op?
My Dad's just had his second knee replacement and it really is a difficult op to recover from. It took him around a year to fully recover last time and he's had complications this time (infection afterwards) so I can see it taking the same amount of time.
Just something to consider as I don't know how easy it would be to fly back after such major surgery. (Sorry if I'm stating the obvious here!)

That's a very good point Bocat. One of my cousins has just had a knee replacement, ironically on NHS in the UK, but he's been told he cannot fly for at least 4 months. No complications so far.

Ah - okay, thanks - if that's the sort of recovery time we need to think of, probably rules this out.
Thanks for all your help!
