We are kicking of the PR application by sending the ANC application ... whilst that is 'in transit etc' is there anything you suggest we do in advance??
We had police checks done in February, and have had those back a while now ... but unsure about the medicals ..

Hi ecando
Like you, I also kickstarted the whole thing by registering with the nurses reg board of NSW before I did anything else. I figured that even if I changed my mind after this, it was only 50 dollars (£20) so nothing to lose.
This took around 8 weeks after which time, I then sent off for modified assessment which cost $150 (£61) as opposed to around $500 for a full assessment.
Whilst waiting for skills assessment, I downloaded form 47SK from internet and began the process of completing the form.
Verification of registration in NSW had to be sent to ANC for them to complete the modified assessment and also verification from NMC had to go to ANC (despite one already going to the registration board of NSW from NMC in order to get registration)
ANC also require a certified copy of your practising licence (which is just like the little card we have from NMC)
Meantime done police checks (took 6 weeks); had medicals done (took around 2 weeks to get blood results back)... and sat back and waited for ANC to be in touch.
As soon as modified assessment arrived, I was then able to complete the application and send it off.
I made sure it was easy for them to deal with, ie put it all in sections with front pages outlining the contents etc.
Must have worked because our visa was granted 17 days after they received the application form at the Adelaide Skilled Processing Centre.
I am off to Sydney in June with my husband and two kids and have registered with Drake Medox. Work in neonatal cardiology and hope to continue in similar field if poss.
Sorry to write an essay, but hope it has been useful

I think the secret was not to send a load of untidy paperwork. I really tried my best to keep it all in order to make it easy for them to either say yes or no! Fortunately we got a yes!!!!
Good Luck Nikki, even with the points requirement going up, I still think it is easy for us nurses.... maybe its because all their nurses are over here in the UK

Hi Rumbleton,
I am waiting for my registration to come back from NBSA, I can then apply to ANC for modified assesment.
How long did the ANC take to process things?
We want to front load also but not sure as to what time scale we will be working.
Up to yet it has been 7 weeks for the NBSA, they say they have been very busy recently.

Yeah, couldnt believe it ourselves as we had an email from ASPC after one week to say they had received the application and the average processing time was 52 weeks unless on the MODL in which case it may take only 16 weeks. Imagine how we felt receiving the yellow envelope only a few weeks later

We're applying for QNC registration as part of attempt to get a working visa with a job offer and see which one comes up first....
Oh heck ... look at the time ... almost on Oz time, with all these late nights!

I guess we took a risk but I knew we would be accepted, just didnt know when. The risk we took was that the validity of the medicals may have run out before we got there as I think they are only valid for a year. However it all turned out ok in the end as we hope to be out there mid June.
We have to get there before 15th July so at one stage we thought we may have to go out on a validation trip.
As far as my personal circumstances go, everything was easy until we came to sell the house - which took 5 months.
I guess if you have a strong application (which I think nurses do) then maybe wait till after your ANC assessment comes back then do meds. My ANC applicaiton was sent on 7/6/03 and came back on 7/8/03 - I did receive a letter half way through asking for cert copy of practising licence and verification of current registration which I had forgot to send. So if I had included these at the beginning then maybe it would have been quicker than the 8 weeks!!
Best of luck whatever you decide, I reckon the timing is all a bit of a gamble really

Our house is sold subject to contract, and completes ... fingers crossed in July! I would rather be in rented/with relatives/friends/a tent/back of the car etc than have a green light from Oz, but a house to sell!

Re: Nursing Agencies
I am in Australia and am working with a smaller agency - Affinity Nursing - the service has been excellent! Regular updates before I started work and lots of follow up calls and support now I'm here. Highly recommended!

OK ... you've made contact with the agencies ... sent off all the documents and forms they want, and they say "no problem in getting you a job" ..... how long do you leave it before getting back in touch with them!?

this way we have the security of a job for me, and we can take our time deciding where we want to settle, find hubby a job then buy. I was slightly complicated as my experience is community based, and i wasn't keen to go back hospital based. We found an agency who say they can place me in a small town approx 1 hr 30 mins from Perth with subsidised house on approx $50,000.
We are waiting to hear back have sent references etc.
The agency is in london, Jodie is our contact email [email protected], they are part of eden healthcare.
Everyone is right about registering with NSW, I've just sent all my docs with a cheque equivilant £20 to register.
The downside to this sponsorship is your tied to employer which is why we are doing PR visa also then we are free to decide our future.
Sorry didn't mean to write a novel!!! hope it helps
Cheers

I am new to this site and also using forums so please bear with me if I break any etiquette!
Your situations are very similar to ours. My wife and I have decided to emigrate to Oz and she is a nurse and is the one that gets all the points - although I have paper qualifications its for nothing on the SOL.
We too are confused by what is the best route in, for PR. An agent has told us state territory NOminated Migration Visa is best - but this applies to Vic, Tas and SA. We favour Adelaide due to the climate being less wet than NSW and not as hot as say, Brisbane. One agent has also told us that SA is easier to get into than NSW or QLD. Does this ring true?
My wife is a practice nurse in a busy GP surgery and ideally would like to do the same in Oz - specialising in Diabetes - anyone know whether such jobs exist? Haven't had much luck on the web.

id leave it about a week at the most - they do move pretty fast, but a good agency will ring you regularly to update you anyway!
