Legislation that affects nursing practice

Help!!! I am trying to complete a job application for Monday and am working my way through the dreaded selection criteria :scared: One of the criteria is 'Knowledge of legislation that affects nursing practice'. Anybody got any suggestions on how to answer this one using Aussie legislation. Which are the most important legislations over here that I can read up on? I dont really want to answer it with UK legislation in mind. Any ideas?

Not sure if this is what you want. But the ANMC website has code of conduct, national competancy standards plus other stuff. Try also the Nurses act of 1999 (old I know) that Im sure has some legislation in. How about looking at the particular Nursing board you are applying for? im sure you've already done that but I know the nursing board of South Australia discusses this.

good luck with the application!

HI Tracie,

I was asked this on a phone interview for a nurse grad position a month or two ago. I quoted Nurses Act, Nurses Code of Practice 2000, ANMC guidelines relating to Code of Ethics, Professional Conduct and National Competency Standards for Registered Nursing. I also made reference to the fact that there may be state or commonwealth laws that also affect a nurses practice but as a UK trained nurse I could not go into great detail. They seemed fairly happy with it all & i must have done okay cos I got offered a position.

Good luck, hope u get an interview
