I was always unsure about this one, so its good to know its possible. I'd read the whole booklet and didn't think i'd be eligible for the 'exceptional circumstances' so its really good to know its possible. I'd better get chatting with my boss asap then haha

Well, I thought I'd update this thread to anyone thats still wondering about 457 to ENS.
I've spoken to my employer re this, I am on a 457 visa at the moment and have only been working here for 6 months. I'm also only 16 months since I qualified as a nurse.
My employer has agreed to sponsor me for ENS PR visa. So chuffed, and I was always unsure how they would get around these exceptional circumstances. They basically send a letter to immigaration (well in my case anyway) that mentions experience/specialised skills for the position, inability to fill positions due to labour shortages and shortage of nurses seeking employment. Great! ENS al the way!

Been looking out for you.....can't believe that's you in Oz for 6 months now, I remember when you first started posting on BE!! Really glad you are on the ENS path now, must be a relief to the 457
I'm qualified 6 months now, but 55 jobs apps and 3 interviews later, I STILL haven't had a sniff of a job...... nothing for the new grads, I'm afraid
Best wishes

Ah Evie, how disapointing for you. Nice to hear from you though, thanks for your best wishes!
I know what it feels like. I got knocked back from all the grad programmes i applied to, as they were so popular. I think the problem is there weren't even enough grad places for aussie student nurses recently, so they cutting back on overseas recruitment....prob not for long though.
Its not like you havent tried by the sounds of it either. What happend with the job interviews? What a shame
Have you applied directly to positions rather than grad programmes too? Thats how i got a job. What area are you in? If I hear of any positions coming on our ward will let you know....if you wanna do Gynae that is Do you want to come to Perth too....or anywhere?
Speak soon, take care, Lucy x

great to hear from you!! To be honest, it was my intension (as you may remember) to apply for new grad in oz, but my dad died very suddenly last year, and I haven't had the courage to apply....just feel it is not the right time to leave my mum The irony was, that I only undertook the nursing degree to get my foot in the door in oz, as, i'm 43 now, so really old
The jobs I applied for where in the NHS, and only had three interviews. The feedback has been positive, with all three saying they went for experience. But, I really don't know what more I can do....in the middle of my final anatomy and physiology exams, I had to deal with my dad's passing, and I still sat and passed the exam, and ended up with a 1st...and in my ignorance, I thought with a result like that (which I wasn't expecting) I would have had more success in trying to get a job!! I happen to love theatre, particulary anaesthetics and recovery, but would go for anything!!
But I am soooooo please all is going well for you! PM me anytime and give me the lowdown on life in oz, and in particular, how you cope without family and friends!!
